Description   After receiving numerous inquiries over the past several years about offering a fretless as part of Foderas Standard line-up, they finally decided on a set of specifications that they felt would be up to the task! The Monarch 4 Fretless Standard (M4FS) was designed from the ground up to provide every ounce of playability and sonic performance we are capable of delivering based on our 30 years of handcrafting some of the finest electric bass guitars in the World. The Fretless Standard features a Walnut body, Ebony fingerboard and quartersawn, one-piece Red Oak neck. The result is a warm and smooth, yet beautifully articulate fretless tone. Red Oak, being a strong but fairly porous wood, has many tiny air pockets that act as "resonating chambers," enhancing the "growl" of the instrument. By building just one configuration, with no options, they are able to offer the same legendary Fodera quality of our custom instruments at a very competitive price point. Every M4FS is built right here in our Brooklyn, NY shop alongside the custom instruments by the very same people, using the same tools. This first run of the M4FS will only consist of 15 instruments, all of which will have a figured Walnut top coming from the same piece of Claro Walnut -- different than the piece used on the prototype but equally stunning and tonally delicious!
